we won’t forget

·

In February 2022, Russia invaded Ukraine. This was not the first or last, unfortunately, act of aggression.

Today, my two Ukrainian friends organised and hosted an event on the tragedies that are still taking place in Ukraine. The treatment of the Ukrainian people on their soil is inhumane and unacceptable. Many, including me and my friends, were brought to tears. If we were so moved just hearing about it, imagine actually experiencing it. War is the greatest test of the empathy of a population. Are you able to see beyond data and capitol? Can you imagine what individual human beings are going through? Can you feel the grief of the family of a fallen solider?

One phrase that stuck with me was “if you stop talking about it, people forget about it”. Apart from arousing guilt that maybe I didn’t speak up enough, it also brought about hope – if you keep on talking about it, people won’t forget. So that’s why I’m writing this post, so that we never forget.
